Haphazard Explorations & Experiments In Fiction

Portrait of a Monster

Long, sharp talons.

A disfigured, mashed-up face.

Beady predatory eyes, glowing with an intensity that reflects its hunger.

This is how he imagines himself stripped bare, naked, for all to see.

In another world, that is. Another time, another universe, another reality.

One in which he appears purely and truly as he is.

In this world though, he’s just another face, with callused human hands and bright blue human eyes.

Nobody sees his true face here.

Nobody knows he’s something to fear.

A monster that devours whoever it can sink its teeth into.

“And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
~William Shakespeare
