Haphazard Explorations & Experiments In Fiction

The Fog

Where am I?

Standing in this dark night, this swirling fog…

I can’t say anymore.

The fog of war obscures all paths.

Smoke and flame mixing with the fog.

A lot of it circumstance, unhappy proximity.

Other flames though…

Those are of my own making.

Moving forward means expansion.

War is inevitable, weaknesses exposed, strength tested.

Losses taken…

Spoils gained.

What comes next?

Under siege.

Senses, psyche, overwhelmed.

Too many pressures to withstand, too many fronts to cover.

As I come back to life there’s only the darkness.

The smoke and the flames and the fog.

Where am I!?

(Alt. titles: Emerging from the Fog / Rising from the Fog / Fighting through the Fog)

“And all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage and then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”
~William Shakespeare
